One Win For The Lead: Why Pirates Are Favorites To Topple Sundowns

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi has emphasized the importance of securing maximum points from the club’s remaining three Betway Premiership matches of the 2025/26 season.
The Buccaneers could climb to the top of the table if they defeat Magesi FC at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening.
Currently, the Soweto giants sit second in the standings with 62 points from 27 matches, trailing title rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, who lead with 65 points after 28 games.
Pirates’ title hopes received a significant boost after Sundowns dropped two valuable points in a 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday.
With a superior goal difference over the Brazilians, Pirates now have a clear path to challenge for the league title if they capitalize on their games in hand.
“It’s the stage of the season where every point is important,” said Ncikazi.
“Teams are fighting for points for different reasons, and our opponents are in a similar position. We just have to focus on our process, analyse the game tactically, and remain disciplined. Confidence will also be important during the match.
“Then we must get the points and continue with our journey.”
A few cannot bet on Pirates against Magesi on Saturday, as they have defeated the struggling side twice this season – in the Carling Knockout -2-1 – and 2-1 in the reverse league feature.
