Ouaddou Hails Pirates’ Dominance In Title Race Surge

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou praised his team’s comprehensive dominance following their emphatic 5-0 victory over Golden Arrows in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday.

Braces from Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis powered the Buccaneers to an impressive win at Orlando Amstel Arena.

Pirates remain firmly in the title race, continuing to apply pressure on Mamelodi Sundowns, who also secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Durban City in a match played at the same time.

It proved to be a difficult outing for Arrows, who were aiming to solidify their position in the top eight.

The victory takes the Buccaneers to 54 points from 23 matches, just two behind Sundowns, who lead the standings with 56 points, having played the same number of games.

“I think we were very dominant in all areas,” said Ouaddou after the game on SuperSport TV.

“So, congratulations to the boys. We can see that Pirates are still alive, and we’re going to fight until the end. When the boys are efficient in the final third, we can score a lot of goals.”

“It happened at the beginning of the season and in the middle as well, but I kept saying we needed to be more efficient. Now they are scoring goals, and I’m happy. I hope we will have a fantastic reward at the end of the season,” he added.

Ouaddou emphasised that his side will continue to push hard in their remaining seven fixtures.

“It’s difficult now because we have two teams fighting,” he said.

“I think it’s very good for the South African league. For me, I always say it’s the best in Africa. We are putting up a strong challenge, but let’s see what happens at the end of the season. As I’ve said before, we will be there until the last game.”
