Pirates Bolster Squad With Signing Of Van Rooyen
Orlando Pirates have made a significant addition to their squad ahead of the new season, confirming the signing of Deano van Rooyen from Stellenbosch FC.
The 27-year-old defender has penned a three-year contract with the Soweto giants, which includes an option for a further two years.
Van Rooyen’s arrival is a timely boost for Pirates, who will be competing in the CAF Champions League next season after finishing second in the DStv Premiership. The club has been looking to strengthen their defensive options, particularly with injuries to key players like Thabiso Lebitso and Bandile Shandu.
The versatile defender has been a standout performer for Stellenbosch FC in recent seasons, playing a crucial role in their success. He was instrumental in helping the club secure their maiden trophy, the Carling Knockout Cup, in 2023.
Van Rooyen’s ability to play both as a center-back and a full-back will provide Pirates with much-needed flexibility and depth in their defensive line. His experience and leadership qualities will also be invaluable to the team.
As Pirates prepare for a challenging season both domestically and on the continental stage, the signing of van Rooyen is a significant step towards their goal of achieving success.
