Pirates Boosted by Returning Defenders for AmaZulu Clash

Orlando Pirates received a defensive boost ahead of their DStv Premiership clash against AmaZulu at Orlando Stadium on Saturday (17:30).

Defenders Nkosinathi Sibisi and Thapelo Xoki return for selection after missing the past two matches. Sibisi served a suspension following a red card in the frustrating draw against Moroka Swallows, while Xoki was sidelined with injury. Xoki’s absence included the Nedbank Cup quarter-final against his former club AmaZulu last weekend.

“Defensive duo Nkosinathi Sibisi and Tapelo Xoki are again in contention for spots in the matchday squad after missing the trip to Durban due to suspension,” confirmed a statement from Pirates.

There’s further positive news with Bafana striker Evidence Makgopa nearing a return. Makgopa has missed seven games in all competitions but is back in training after a month on the sidelines.

However, the update provided no information on the status of Olisa Ndah, who continues to battle an injury.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu welcomes midfielder Ethan Brooks back into their selection mix after serving a suspension in the Ke Yona Cup game last weekend.

The Durban side is on a winless streak against Pirates that stretches back 15 league games. During this period, Pirates have emerged victorious seven times, with the remaining eight fixtures ending in draws. The most recent stalemate was a goalless draw in the Premiership clash held at Moses Mabhida Stadium earlier this season.
