Pirates Extend Diski Lead; Chiefs Surge Into Top Four

Orlando Pirates strengthened their grip on the top of the DStv Diski Challenge standings with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch at Lentelus Sports Ground on Saturday morning.
The Buccaneers now sit on 60 points, opening a six-point gap over second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who remain on 54 points with a game in hand after not featuring this weekend.
Pirates approached the clash with determination following a disappointing 2-1 defeat to 10-man Kaizer Chiefs in last weekend’s Soweto Derby, a result that had briefly slowed their title momentum.
Against Stellenbosch, however, the Buccaneers showed resilience and focus to return to winning ways and keep their championship hopes firmly on track.
Meanwhile, Chiefs continued their own strong run of form, securing a 2-1 victory over Golden Arrows at Dobsonville Stadium. The win saw Amakhosi climb from fifth to fourth place on the table, now sitting on 42 points.
Naledi Hlongwane emerged as the standout performer of the weekend, delivering a match-winning brace for Chiefs. His performance builds on last weekend’s Soweto Derby display, where he also contributed with an assist, highlighting his growing influence in the team.
Elsewhere, action continued in the KwaZulu-Natal Derby between Richards Bay and AmaZulu at Mpumalanga Stadium, with the encounter just kicking off at 12:00. These fixtures were the only matches scheduled for the weekend in the Diski Challenge.
