Pirates Held, Chiefs Still Winless As Sundowns Bounce Back In Diski Challenge

Orlando Pirates dropped crucial points but remained top of the standings, while Kaizer Chiefs’ difficult run continued, and Mamelodi Sundowns returned to winning ways in Saturday’s DStv Diski Challenge action.

The Buccaneers went into their clash against Polokwane City at UJ Soweto Stadium after a break in fixtures last weekend, when they were not in action.

Pirates were held to a 1-1 draw by Rise and Shine, yet they continue to lead the table with 45 points from 19 matches and still have a game in hand over their closest challengers.

Chiefs’ struggles showed no sign of ending as they remained winless this year following a 2-2 draw with Richards Bay at Dobsonville Stadium. Despite sharing the spoils, Amakhosi stayed fifth on the log with 28 points from 19 outings.

Sundowns, meanwhile, bounced back to winning ways with an impressive 3-1 victory over TS Galaxy at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

The result came after their disappointing 3-2 defeat to Golden Arrows last weekend and ensured they held onto second place, now sitting on 42 points from 20 matches, just three behind Pirates.

Elsewhere, Chippa United suffered a 3-1 defeat to Siwelele at Gelvandale Stadium, while Durban City and Sekhukhune United played out a 1-1 draw at Chatsworth Stadium.

The Premier Soccer League’s reserve competition continues on Sunday with three fixtures, as Marumo Gallants host Golden Arrows at CUT Stadium, Stellenbosch travel to face Orbit College at Olympia Park Stadium, and AmaZulu take on Magesi at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.
