Pirates Release Four Players, Including Erasmus

Orlando Pirates have departed ways with four players, including Kermit Erasmus.

Other players shown the door are Thabang Monare, Soyabonga Mpontshane and Ghanaian goalie Richards Ofori.

“As the football season draws to a close, we not only mark the end of our campaign but also bid farewell to some of our esteemed players,” Pirates said in a statement.

“Orlando Pirates can confirm that Richard Ofori, Siyabonga Mpontshane, Thabang Monare and Kermit Erasmus will be leaving us when their respective contracts come to an end on June 30.

“It is with a deep sense of gratitude that we reflect on the contributions of these players during their time with us.”

Ofori, who joined Pirates ahead of the 2020/21 season, played 58 matches and securing 29 clean sheets. In his first season, Ofori helped Pirates win the MTN8 when they beat Bloemfontein Celtic in Durban.

Mpontshane is leaving after nine seasons with Pirates. He arrived at the club from Platinum Stars in the second half of the 2014/15 season. This after he led Dikwena win the MTN8 and the Telkom Knockout Cup (now Carling) in the same before and all against Pirates.

Monare, who is known as Desh, joined Pirates ahead of 2020/21 season from Bidvets Wits. He featured in 93 matches for the Buccaneers.  Monare leaves the club having won two Nedbank Cup, two MTN8 Cup and a silver medal for the CAF Confederation Cup.

Erasmus rejoined the Buccaneers ahead of 2022/23 season from Mamelodi Sundowns.

“He featured in 117 matches under his belt in Pirates colours, Romeo has solidified his legendary status at the club,” Pirates said.

The club added: “We extend our heartfelt thanks to these players for their unwavering service and commitment to the club. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours.”
