Richards Bay To Be Involved In Playoffs Spot After Drawing With Stellies
Richards Bay FC secured their place in the DStv Premiership playoffs with a 2-1 victory over Stellenbosch FC at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.
This dramatic final day of the season saw several key changes to the league table.
Ntsako Makhubela opened the scoring for the home side in just the sixth minute, with Yanela Mbuthuma adding another in the 17th minute. Iqraam Rayners pulled one back for Stellenbosch in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to salvage their CAF Champions League qualification hopes.
Orlando Pirates finished the season in second place after drawing 1-1 with SuperSport United. This result, combined with Stellenbosch’s loss, means Pirates will now compete in the prestigious CAF Champions League next season and Steve Barker’s side taking the CAF Confederation Cup spot instead as they finished third in the table.
Richards Bay’s win sends them into a mini-league playoff against Baroka FC and University of Pretoria. This playoffs will determines which team will follow Magesi FC in the DStv Premiership in the 2024/25 season.
Royal AM secured their safety in the DStv Premiership with a crucial 2-1 victory over Moroka Swallows, to finish 14th in the table and send Bay to the playoffs.
