Ried: We Have Been After Maart For Long Time

SV Oberbank Ried managing director of sport, Wolfgang Fiala, revealed that they have been tracking Yusuf Maart for some time.

The former Kaizer Chiefs captain joined newly promoted Austrian side, signing a contract until 2027 with an option for extension.

Maart becomes the second South African international at the club, following the signing of former Stellenbosch attacker Antonio van Wyk at the start of last season.

He is also Ried’s fifth new signing so far, joining Kingstone Mutandwa, Peter Kiedl, Akain Azkune, and Jonathan Scherzer.

“We are very happy that Yusuf has decided to join SV Oberbank Ried,” Fiala stated.

“We have been watching him for a long time and are convinced that he fits perfectly with our idea of play. Yusuf is a very complete midfielder: He can control the game, is strong in tackles, has a high willingness to run, and also has a good eye for his teammates. He also brings leadership qualities that will be good for our young team. Especially his international experience and his mentality of always wanting to win were decisive factors for us in this signing.”

Maart will be fondly remembered by Kaizer Chiefs fans for his left-footed shot that secured the Nedbank Cup final victory over Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium last season, ending the club’s 10-year title drought.

Expressing his excitement, Maart commented, “This is a great opportunity for me to play here in Europe. I am very much looking forward to gaining new experiences. I want to give my best in every game, be a great person for the team on and off the pitch. I know Austrian football as highly intense and physical. Ried is known for the great atmosphere in the stadium and its fans.”
