Riveiro Thrilled By Diverse Scoring Threat

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is delighted to see his team scoring goals from a variety of attacking positions, as the race for second place intensifies with Stellenbosch FC just ahead in the standings with few games remaining.

This past weekend, Pirates secured a convincing 4-0 victory over Royal AM at Harry Gwala Stadium, proving they’re not solely reliant on Tshegofatso Mabasa for goals. The goals came from various sources within the attacking midfield.

The scoring began with Patrick Maswanganyi converting a penalty, followed by a well-constructed move finished by Thalente Mbatha. Relebohile Mofokeng, who caused constant problems for the Royal AM defense, then got onto the scoresheet himself. Kabelo Dlamini added the final touch to complete the rout for the Buccaneers.

Despite the win, Pirates remain in third place on the DStv Premiership table with 43 points after 25 matches, three points behind second-placed Stellenbosch, who dominated Polokwane City 5-0 on Saturday.

“We have a lot of talented players in the squad,” said Riveiro. “The four who scored are no exception. We’re currently in a good spell where the ball is finding the net. There were times earlier in the season where we played better than on Sunday but couldn’t score. Now, we have much more confidence in the final third.”

Riveiro emphasized the importance of teamwork: “In the end, it’s about the team, the eleven players on the field, the structure, and the footballing philosophy we believe in. Within that structure, individual talent can truly shine.”

“I’m happy for all the scorers,” he continued. “They are talented players and excellent human beings. I’m also happy for the fans who came to enjoy a winning performance. It’s a feeling of overall happiness.”

Pirates now set their sights on Cape Town City in their next match scheduled for Wednesday at DHL Stadium (15:00).
