Galaxy Threatens Legal Action Against Mokwena
TS Galaxy FC issued a statement threatening legal action against Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena.
The statement takes offense to comments Mokwena made suggesting Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic influenced his players to injure Bongani Zungu.
Following Sundowns’ 3-0 victory over Galaxy on Monday night, Mokwena expressed disappointment with a tackle on Zungu during a post-match interview on SuperSport TV. He claimed to have been informed that Ramovic showed Galaxy players footage of the tackle to Bernard Parker when these two sides met in the Carling Knockout cup first round, implying they were instructed to target Zungu.
Parker suffered a broken foot in a collision with Zungu during that Carling Knockout Cup match. Zungu received a red card for the challenge, however, he maintained it was unintentional. This incident apparently caused friction between the two coaches.
Mokwena previously attempted to demonstrate his concern for Parker’s well-being by providing a copy of an invoice for a gift sent to the injured player to Sportswire. He expressed frustration that other coaches haven’t faced similar scrutiny for player injuries.
However, Galaxy strongly disputes Mokwena’s claims about a video being used to motivate players. Their statement calls his comments “blatant lies” and a “serious embarrassment” to the sport.
TS Galaxy demands that Mokwena retract his statement and provide evidence within 24 hours. Failure to do so will prompt legal action against him.
