Sekhukhune Eyes Malesela As New Coach
Coach Dan Malesela is being linked with a move to Sekhukhune United following their coaching vacancy.
Malesela was suspended by Baroka FC after they lost their first game of the PSL promotion and relegation playoffs last month, and it is clear he won’t go back at the club based on the allegations of his suspension.
He was replaced by Morgan Mammila, who could not help the Limpopo side to the DStv Premiership promotion after they were hammered 4-0 by Richards Bay last week.
On the other hand, Sekhukhune suspended coach Lehlohonolo Seema two matches before the season ended and was replaced by Mcdonald Makhubedu, who was installed on an interim basis. However, the club has since confirmed Seema’s departure from the club.
Sekhukhune tried to lure Morena Ramoreboli from Jwaneng Galaxy in Botswana, as per the reports, but that move didn’t come to fruition.
Now, they have turned to Malesela to be in charge of the club ahead of next season, after finishing fourth last term and qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup.
Malesela has been around the block. At the start of the 2022/23 season, he was appointed as the co-coach of Royal AM, but left three months in the job, citing a clash of style with other coaches who were Khabo Zondo and Abram Nteo.
In September 2022, Malesela took over at Marumo Gallants, going back there for the second time, but left in January last year before Baroka came calling for him in October.
Malesela, who also coached Chippa United on several occasions, hold a record in SA domestic football. He led TS Galaxy to the Nedbank Cup triumph in 2018/19 season when they beat Kaizer Chiefs in Durban, becoming the first second-tier side to win the SA version of the FA Cup.
While at Gallants, he fell short in the 2022 Nedbank Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns. Sekhukhune sees Malesela as a potential leader for the upcoming campaign.
