Sharks Name 18-Year-Old Siyaya To Debut At Fullback Against Ospreys

Vodacom United Rugby Championship rugby returns after a fortnight break, with everything to play for in the final four rounds of the pool stages as the Hollywoodbets Sharks travel to Wales to take on the Ospreys on Saturday evening.

“The mood in the camp is really good,” said captain Andre Esterhuizen ahead of the team’s departure.

“We know we’re building something, and we understand that we need to win all four remaining matches to stand a chance of breaking into the top eight. The group is highly motivated — we’ve had good discussions, strong training sessions, and we’re looking forward to the challenge ahead.

“We haven’t been at our best on the road this season, but that’s something we’re determined to fix. We know what we’re capable of and we have the squad to deliver — it’s about doing it consistently every weekend.”

Esterhuizen emphasised that consistency remains the key focus for the team.

“That’s something we’ve lacked this season. We’re working hard on delivering consistent performances, and we know that if we perform well, we give ourselves a good chance of winning. It’s a mindset — you have to be switched on for every game. This is a tough competition, and if you’re not at your best, you can lose at any time.”

Looking ahead to the Ospreys, Esterhuizen expects a demanding encounter.

“They’re a tough side, especially at home. They play an expansive game, they’re physical, and they like to move the ball around. It’s going to be a big challenge, but one we’re excited for.”

Esterhuizen will lead a well-balanced matchday 23, with head coach JP Pietersen showing faith in 18-year-old Zekhethelo Siyaya, who earns his first start at fullback. The squad also sees the return of several experienced players.
