South African Goalkeeping Great Nominated For FIFA World XI

Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams has been nominated for the FIFA World XI, another significant accolade for the South African international.
However, he missed out on the FIFA Best Goalkeeper award, which went to:
- Andriy Lunin (Ukraine), Real Madrid
- David Raya (Spain), Arsenal
- Ederson (Brazil), Manchester City
- Emiliano Martinez (Argentina), Aston Villa
- Gianluigi Donnarumma (Italy), Paris Saint-Germain
- Mike Maignan (France), AC Milan
- Unai Simon (Spain), Athletic Club
Football fans worldwide can now cast their votes in a host of categories, including The Best FIFA Men’s 11 and The Best FIFA Women’s 11.
FIFA has announced the shortlist of nominees for The Best FIFA Football Awards 2024, which will recognize the outstanding performances in women’s and men’s football at both club and international levels.
Williams has been in exceptional form last season for both club and country. He helped Bafana Bafana claim the Africa Cup of Nations bronze medal in February, where he was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament and included in the Team of the Tournament.
He also played a crucial role in Sundowns’ African Football League and Betway Premiership title wins.
Historically, Williams is only the third goalkeeper to win the PSL Footballer of the Year award, the highest honor in the domestic league.
Recently, he was nominated for the Yachine Trophy at the Ballon d’Or Awards in France, becoming the first African-based goalkeeper to achieve this distinction. However, he lost out to Martinez of Aston Villa.
Williams has also been nominated for the CAF Player of the Year, CAF Inter-Club Player of the Year, and CAF Goalkeeper of the Year awards, which will be presented in Morocco next month. He is anticipated to win several of these awards, unlike the Ballon d’Or or FIFA Best.
