Soweto Derby Fever As Few Tickets Remain

Orlando Pirates have issued another statement revealing that only 15,000 tickets remain for the highly anticipated Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on 1 February.
On Wednesday, the Soweto giants confirmed rapid ticket sales, with 40,000 already sold for this crucial encounter in the 2024/25 season.
“The Sold-Out sign for the upcoming Soweto Derby may arrive sooner than anticipated. On Wednesday, the club announced that 40,000 tickets were left for the Betway Premiership match between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs on February 1,” said Pirates in a statement on Friday.
“According to recent numbers, only 15,000 tickets remain.”
The club also mentioned that hospitality packages are still on offer.
Pirates, unlike Chiefs, are enjoying a better season. They currently occupy second place in the Betway Premiership table with 27 points from 11 matches, trailing log leaders and seven-time consecutive champions Mamelodi Sundowns by three points.
Chiefs, on the other hand, have experienced a mixed bag of results this season, currently sitting in sixth place with 18 points after 13 matches, nine points behind Pirates.
Pirates have dominated recent Derby encounters, winning all three of their most recent matches, including the Nedbank Cup semifinal in 2023.
This will be the 181st meeting in the Derby, with Chiefs holding a slight advantage with 74 victories compared to Pirates’ 47. There have been 54 draws and five abandoned matches. Chiefs have scored 230 Soweto Derby goals, while Pirates have netted 196.
Before this historic match at the 2010 World Cup final venue, Pirates will play three more matches.
They will travel to face Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League this coming weekend, where a draw is sufficient to secure the top spot in Group C.
They will then visit Royal AM at Harry Gwala Stadium on 23 January before the Nedbank Cup last 32 clash against Richards Bay three days later away .
