Soweto Derby Tickets Sold Out

The mother of all matches in South Africa – the Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs – has seen a complete sell-out of tickets.
This was confirmed by Pirates, who are the hosts when the two giants of South African football clash at FNB Stadium on 1 February.
On Friday, stadium management confirmed that only 15,000 tickets remained. However, by Saturday, Pirates announced that all tickets had been sold.
The rapid sell-out can be attributed to Pirates’ strong performance this season. They currently occupy second place in the Betway Premiership table with 27 points from 11 matches, trailing log leaders and seven-time consecutive champions Mamelodi Sundowns by three points.
Chiefs, on the other hand, have experienced a mixed bag of results this season, currently sitting in sixth place with 18 points after 13 matches, nine points behind Pirates.
Pirates have dominated recent Derby encounters, winning all three of their most recent matches, including the Nedbank Cup semifinal in 2023.
This will be the 181st meeting in this storied rivalry, with Chiefs holding a slight advantage with 74 victories compared to Pirates’ 47. There have been 54 draws and five abandoned matches. Chiefs have scored 230 Soweto Derby goals, while Pirates have netted 196.
Before this historic match at the 2010 World Cup final venue, Pirates will play three more matches.
They will travel to face Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League this coming weekend, where a draw is sufficient to secure the top spot in Group C.
They will then visit Royal AM at Harry Gwala Stadium on 23 January before the Nedbank Cup last 32 clash against Richards Bay three days later, also away from home.
