Sundowns Attacker Returns Home In Argentina

Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Matias Esquivel has officially returned to his homeland, Argentina, to join CA Talleres on loan for the upcoming season.

According to reports from South America, the Argentine side has an option to purchase Esquivel permanently at the end of the loan period.

Sundowns had acquired Esquivel from Lanús in the January transfer window of the previous season for a significant fee, securing his services on a contract that extended until 2027. However, the 25-year-old struggled to make a significant impact during his time with the South African giants.

Esquivel appeared in 13 matches across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist. His goals contributed to Sundowns’ resounding 5-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium, which ultimately sealed their league title with six games to spare.

He also found the net in the Nedbank Cup round of 32 against NB La Masia, a match in which former coach Rulani Mokwena provided opportunities to players who had limited game time.

As this is a loan arrangement, Esquivel will be eager to impress at Talleres and potentially secure a permanent move, enabling Sundowns to recoup the substantial investment they made in him.
