SuperSport Assessing Cape Town Spurs Striker

Sportswire has learned that veteran Cape Town Spurs striker Therlo Moosa is currently undergoing an assessment with SuperSport United.

The 31-year-old forward, who spent three seasons with Spurs, recently experienced the club’s relegation to the ABC Motsepe Regional League.

However, it appears Moosa might avoid playing in the regional league next season, as SuperSport has welcomed him into their training sessions.

SuperSport is in search of a new center-forward following Bradley Grobler’s departure to Sekhukhune United after his contract expired.

Moosa could be a strong candidate, bringing a wealth of experience. During his tenure with Spurs, he was instrumental in their promotion to the Betway Premiership in the 2022/23 season via the PSL playoffs. Unfortunately, the Mother City club’s stay in the top division lasted only one season, as they were relegated at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

The Mitchells Plain-born striker, who has also played for prominent clubs like Mamelodi Sundowns, Stellenbosch FC, and Marumo Gallants, featured in 35 matches across all competitions for Spurs, netting six goals.

Moosa’s potential link with SuperSport United comes at an interesting time, as the club is reportedly on the verge of being sold.

Rumors suggest an unknown Bloemfontein businessman has forked out over R50 million to acquire the club’s status.

Sportswire previously reported on this impending sale and also indicated that former TS Galaxy assistant coach Vuyo Mere was set to join the technical team. Mere, a Bloemfontein native who recently announced his retirement from playing, left Galaxy at the end of last season to take up this anticipated role.

However, the rumored sale has caused some internal ripples, with reports suggesting that several players are not in favor of relocating to Bloemfontein. Some are reportedly considering terminating their contracts and seeking new clubs in Gauteng due to family reasons, should the sale to the Bloemfontein businessman materialize.
