Tau Contributes To Al Ahly’s 6-1 Champions League Rout
Percy Tau scored and assisted as Al Ahly emphatically defeated CR Belouizdad 6-1 in their CAF Champions League Group C match at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday.
Tau, who has faced criticism this season for his performances with the Egyptian giants, found the back of the net in the 87th minute with a powerful shot from the edge of the box. He then capped off a dominant display by setting up Emam Ashour for Al Ahly’s sixth goal in stoppage time.
While Tau played a crucial role, the star of the show was undoubtedly Wessam Abou Ali, who scored a hat-trick. Ali opened his account just before halftime and added two more goals in the 51st and 84th minutes. Hussein El Shahat contributed another goal in the 56th minute, ensuring a comfortable victory for the record African champions.
Al Ahly’s dominance was particularly impressive considering they fell behind early in the match, with Aymen Mahious giving Belouizdad a surprise lead in the 21st minute. South African forward Khanyisa Mayo, who plays for Belouizdad, was substituted in the 71st minute with the score at 3-1 to Al Ahly.
This resounding victory propels Al Ahly back to the top of Group C with seven points, two points ahead of Orlando Pirates. Pirates had previously held the top spot with five points after three matches, following a draw away against Stade Abidjan last weekend.
The Champions League will resume on 3 January. Pirates will host Stade Abidjan at home, while Al Ahly will travel to face Belouizdad.
