“This Was For Jayden”: Cardoso Delivers Emotional Tribute After Sundowns’ Dramatic Comeback
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso dedicated the club’s 3-2 victory over TS Galaxy to the late Jayden Adams and injured midfielder Teboho Mokoena following their Betway Premiership clash at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday.
Sundowns came from 2-1 down in the dying minutes of the match to complete a remarkable comeback, with Sphelele Mkhulise scoring a brace to seal all three points for the Brazilians.
The victory marked Sundowns’ opening match of the 2026/27 season after their opening fixture against Marumo Gallants was postponed following the tragic passing of Adams.
Mokoena was also absent from the game after suffering an injury during Sundowns’ 3-2 victory over Polokwane City in the MTN8 on Saturday.
The win moved the African champions up to fourth place on the table with three points.
“There is someone else today who deserved this victory; it was Jayden. And another person who deserved this win is Teboho Mokoena,” said Cardoso.
“I think everybody saw how his foot was injured from a ruthless tackle in the last game. So it was also for him. Congratulations to the team. I saw the spirit on the bench, and I’m happy with the result, of course, because sometimes these matches don’t finish this way. But I think today they deserved it one hundred percent.”
Sundowns will now turn their attention to the highly anticipated clash against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
