Titus Wants To Win More Trophies For Stellies
The in-form Devin Titus is determined to propel Stellenbosch FC forward into the Nedbank Cup semi-finals as they prepare to face SuperSport United on Saturday (15:00).
Stellies will enter the weekend’s quarter-final encounter riding a club-record 20-match unbeaten streak across all competitions, with Titus playing a pivotal role, netting six goals in his last ten appearances.
“We’re looking forward to another quarter-final clash and hoping to reach the semi-final, and then the final, but first we have to focus on the task at hand,” said Titus, whose speed upfront has caused havoc for many teams.
On top of the 20-march unbeaten run, Stellies have a trophy to boot, having won the Carling Knockout Cup in December last year in Durban. They also reached the Ke Yona Cup semifinal last season, only to lose to Sekhukhune United.
Despite Stellenbosch’s impressive form, history favours SuperSport as opposed to them. The two teams have met 13 times, resulting in only two wins for Stellenbosch, five draws, and six wins for SuperSport.
“SuperSport United are always a tough opposition to face, but conditions will hopefully play in our favour at home and hopefully we can get the win,” said Titus who hopes they will draw inspiration from their supporting fans at Danie Craven Stadium.
Reflecting on recent performances, including goals against top teams like Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, and Kaizer Chiefs, Titus maintained that his focus lies solely on achieving positive results for the team.
“I always just try to score goals or record assists but as I said previously it’s all about winning for me. If we win against SuperSport and I don’t score or assist, that’s fine, as long as we win and progress to the next round,” said Titus.
Titus expressed his desire to add more trophies to the club’s cabinet, with the Carling already secured and the Nedbank Cup as the next target.
“…I want to help the club win more trophies, and with the Carling Knockout already in our bag, hopefully the Nedbank Cup is next,” he said.
Regardless of his young age, Titus boasts his winning mentality and credits all his recent success to it.
“I am young, but age is just a number, and winning is my mentality. Without winning I don’t think I would be the person I am.
“That comes with hard work and without hard work, I can’t be Devin Titus, and without winning I can’t be Devin Titus.”
The youngster has been tipped to walk away with Young Player of the Season by his coach Steve Barker based on how important he has been to this young and dynamite side.
