Upington City Miss Chance To Go Top

Upington City remain in second place after missing the opportunity to ascend to the summit of the
Motsepe Foundation Championship table following a 1-1 draw against Cape Town Spurs at Athlone
stadium on Sunday.
This comes after Milford FC, who were at the top of the second-tier standings for three weeks
succumbed to a 3-0 defeat to Orbit College who made it back-to back wins on Saturday, ending the
KZN side’s unbeaten start to the 2024/25 campaign.
Meanwhile, Simo Dladla’s Durban City moved to the top of the standings with 15 points
accumulated, following a slender 1-0 victory over Baroka FC at Chatsworth stadium on Friday,
stretching their unbeaten run to seven matches.
Casric stars’ push for promotion suffered a setback as their early season form of a five-game
unbeaten run came to an end after suffering an upsetting 1-0 defeat to newcomers Leruma United,
which saw them drop down to fifth place.
On the bottom half of the table, Tshwane-based outfits Amatuks and Pretoria Callies extended their
winless streak to five and six games respectively after both teams played to a stalemate against their
opponents.
Venda FC picked up their first victory of the season and the maiden one under recently appointed
coach Vladislav Heric, edging newly promoted Kruger United 1-0 at Thohoyandou stadium on
Sunday.
The win saw Venda FC snap a run of three consecutive defeats, while Eastern Cape-based side
Highbury, who got promoted after winning the 2024 ABC Motsepe League promotional playoffs, are
rooted at the bottom having failed to register a single win so far.
