Usuthu Coach: Muvhali Should be Punished

AmaZulu coach Pablo Franco Martin believes referee Cedric Muvhali should be suspended by SAFA and not be assigned to officiate any upcoming matches.
Martin’s frustration stems from a red card issued to Usuthu defender Abbubaker Mobara in the 21st minute of their 1-0 DStv Premiership defeat to Orlando Pirates on Saturday. The challenge on Patrick Maswanganyi appeared to be a clean tackle, with Maswanganyi not having a clear goalscoring opportunity.
“No, he didn’t say anything to the referee,” Martin clarified when asked about the red card.
This is the second time in a week that Martin feels AmaZulu has been wronged by officiating. In their Nedbank Cup quarter-final loss to Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium last weekend, a controversial penalty decision left him fuming. When previously asked by Sportswire about solutions to such refereeing errors, Martin stormed out of the press conference. This time, he advocated for harsher consequences.
“I think if we want to make football a little fairer, of course when there is evidence in the situation, then they should recognize the error publicly because the funniest thing of these things – the ones who are punished are the ones who are not doing anything,” he said.
“The ones who are making mistakes are the ones who are going to be there (officiating) next week, making the same things.
“I think this is a great question, very clever. I think if we want to be fair, we should not have him available in the next games.”
