Velebhayi’s Future Hinges On Durban City Case

The future of Cape Town Spurs’ star winger, Asanele Velebhayi, hangs precariously in the balance as the Disciplinary Committee (DC) prepares to deliver a verdict on a contentious case involving Durban City on Tuesday.
The case centers around allegations that Durban City’s Saziso Magawana was incorrectly registered this season, prompting Leruma United, JDR Stars, and Cape Town Spurs to play under protest against the champions of the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
According to sources close to Sportswire, the DC’s decision, slated for Tuesday, 20 May at 16:30, will have far-reaching implications for Velebhayi’s future.
If the DC rules in favor of Durban City’s opponents, the champions will be relegated to the KZN ABC Motsepe League, and Cape Town Spurs will retain their spot in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
In this scenario, Velebhayi will likely remain with the Urban Warriors, as the club has expressed no intention of selling him.
However, if Durban City emerges victorious, Cape Town Spurs will face relegation to the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League, and Velebhayi’s contract status will change.
The talented winger would become a free agent, opening the door to potential transfers to other clubs.
Interestingly, Velebhayi’s representatives have yet to engage with any teams regarding his future, and he remains committed to Cape Town Spurs for now.
Nevertheless, Kaizer Chiefs had expressed interest in signing the young player before the season commenced, but the Urban Warriors refused to let him go, opting instead to retain his services in their bid to return to the Betway Premiership.
However, the only player to make the move from Spurs to Amakhosi this season was Rushwin Dortley.
