Vilakazi: I Wanted To Play Chiefs Because They Are Losing

Richards Bay coach Vusi Vilakazi says the thought of contesting the play-offs has not crossed his mind and rues that his side will not face Kaizer Chiefs next weekend.
Vilakazi was speaking after his side defeated Moroka Swallows 1-0, which was a double over them this season, at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.
It was the third time this season Bay had defeated Swallows, having got the better of them in the Carling Knockout Cup in the first round in October.
Despite Bay’s position on the table, the win certainly gave them a confidence boost with the coach denying any thoughts of playoffs and expressing his disappointment that they cannot play Chiefs next weekend due to the Nedbank Cup games, despite Amakhosi being a wounded animal.
Despite the win, the Natal Rich Boys remain 15th on the log table, the playoff spot, with 17 points after 23 matches, five points ahead of bottom side Cape Town Spurs.
Bay was winless in their six previous matches coming to this home clash against the Dube Birds, which meant they were desperate for three points and needed to be at their optimal best.
“We can’t start preparing for playoffs, we are still in the league. We still need to fight for points in the league,” said Vilakazi.
“We are talking about seven games (left to play) and if you win four then you’ll be talking another language and it’s seven games.
“We will take advantage of playing at home. I would have loved to play Chiefs this coming weekend, unfortunately, we can’t because there are Nedbank Cup games but when people are asleep, you want to meet them at that moment before they wake up,” added Vilakazi.
Chiefs were humbled by Chippa United on Saturday, their second loss on the bounce and third in the last four matches.
Cavin Jonhson’s side dropped to eighth spot in the table with 30 points after 23 matches.
Bay and Chiefs will lock horns on the 20 April at King Zwelithini Stadium.
