AmaZulu Boss: Top Four Or Else…

AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu expressed disappointment at the club’s absence from the MTN8 quarter-finals for the second consecutive season.

The team’s failure to secure a top-eight finish last term has excluded them from the competition.

Zungu recalled the club’s memorable run to the MTN8 final in the 2022/23 season, where they ultimately lost to Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. He attributed the team’s failure to qualify for this year’s tournament to adverse officiating, rather than blaming coach Pablo Franco Martin.

“It’s very painful,” Zungu admitted.

“But you know, if we were not hard done by officiating, we would have easily been in the top eight. Do you blame Pablo Franco Martin for that? No, you can’t.

“We could have easily sneaked in the top four if we got a fair deal. But notwithstanding, we are not the only ones who didn’t get a fair deal, other teams also got a raw deal.”

Determined to prevent a repeat, Zungu emphasized the importance of securing a top-four finish this season. He expressed frustration at the lack of understanding regarding the club’s ambitions.

“So, all things equal, we need to go there and fight for the top four finish this coming season,” he said.

“I have repeatedly the four finish so many times. No one can claim it he doesn’t know that. I believe AmaZulu is a top quarterly team.

“If you pretend you haven’t heard that or you have not understood that, then you are playing dumb and it is not acceptable.

“So, we want the top four finish.”

The club president outlined his proactive approach to achieving this goal, including potential interventions in the transfer market if necessary. “I will monitor as the team progresses if that top four finish is attainable or not and I will intervene timeously in terms of saying ‘coach, should we go into the transfer market, the January transfer window?’” he said.

“We can’t wake up in January and only the window is closing in the weeks’ time, no. I will intervene where resources are required and intervene in terms of support is required or it deserves.”
