Zwane: I Want To Finish My Career At Sundowns

Kingpin Themba Zwane has revealed his heartfelt ambition to retire at Mamelodi Sundowns, a club he joined from Vardos FC in 2011 before a loan spell at Mpumalanga Black Aces, which later transitioned to Cape Town City.

This comes after Sundowns exercised the option to extend his stay at the club for one more year.

“For me, I’d say I’m happy. I aim to finish my career at Sundowns. But not only finish there but also finish on a high note. I got another opportunity to work hard and contribute to the team,” Zwane declared with a conviction that resonates with the passion of a player who has given his all to his team.

At 34, Zwane’s unwavering commitment to Sundowns is palpable. When quizzed about potential offers from other clubs, his response was candid and straightforward: “To be honest there was no offer,” he confirmed. It’s a testament to his singular focus on his current club, where he feels at home and cherished.

The current season has seen Sundowns bolstered by an influx of new signings, a move that Zwane appreciates deeply. He underscores the importance of depth and quality brought by fresh faces in the squad as the upcoming season is going to taxing. “I think new players bring quality to the team. It’s good for the team, it’s good for the competition of the team know for sure that this season we are going to play a lot of games, we need enough depth. So, for us we are happy that they are bringing other people to help us. As a team, we are positive, and we are looking strong,” Zwane explained.

Among the new signings is Kabelo Kodisang, who joined Sundowns from Portugal’s Moreirense FC. Zwane admitted to being surprised by Kodisang’s return to South Africa but is thrilled by the winger’s addition to the squad. “I was surprised but I was not following him that side, but I was surprised when he came back. But he’s a quality player, I’m happy that he came back. He adds speed, dribble, and creating goals,” said Zwane, highlighting Kodisang’s potential impact.

In the world of football, few stories are as compelling as that of a player dedicating his entire career to one club, becoming a symbol of loyalty and excellence. Zwane has seen it all with Sundowns, having, including eight league titles, three Nedbank Cups, two Carling Knockout cups, one MTN8, the CAF Champions League, the CAF Super Cup, and the African Football League (achieved last season).
