Sundowns Extend Zwane’s Stay

Mamelodi Sundowns captain Themba Zwane will remain with the club for the upcoming season. This was confirmed by Zwane’s agent, Jazzman Mahlakgane, on Wednesday.
Mahlakgane stated that Sundowns exercised their option on Zwane’s contract, though the club hasn’t officially announced it yet.
“Sundowns have taken up the option on Themba Zwane’s contract,” Mahlakgane told Sportswire. “I’m not sure why they haven’t confirmed it yet.”
Last season was Zwane’s final year on his previous contract with Sundowns, whom he led to a record-breaking seventh consecutive league title.
The 34-year-old midfielder has been with Sundowns since the 2011/12 season, with the exception of a loan spell at Mpumalanga Black Aces in the 2013/14 season. Throughout his tenure at Sundowns, Zwane has amassed an impressive trophy cabinet, including eight league titles, three Nedbank Cups, two Carling Knockout cups, one MTN8, the CAF Champions League, the CAF Super Cup, and the African Football League (achieved last season).
Zwane was part of Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana side that claimed the Africa Cup of Nations bronze medal in Ivory Coast earlier this year.
In a separate development, Mahlakgane was present in Richards Bay where he played a key role in securing a three-year sponsorship deal with the Phakwe Group for the Natal Rich Boyz. The deal includes an annual payment of 20 million rand each year and a 40 million rand commitment to invest in the club’s facilities in Richards Bay.
