Zwane Praises Human After Star Shows This Season

AmaZulu co-coach Arthur Zwane has praised Rowan Human for the work he has doing on Usuthu this season.

The former Maritzburg United midfielder has scored two goals and provided five assists in 18 games for Usuthu this season.

On Tuesday, Human provided two assists in their 2-2 draw against Kaizer Chiefs and even won the Man of the Match award for his stellar performance. It was Human’s second successive Man of the Match award, having scored and assisted when they beat SuperSport United in Durban the previous week.

“I think our advantage me and coach Kanu [Vusumuzi Vilakazi] is that we’ve been in development structures for quite some time and trying to understand these players and especially the young players how they do things,” Zwane said.

“Sometimes you get too harsh on these young players, but you are also looking at the situation that can you able to take the pressure. I think if you can take the pressure you will be able to put in a challenge to him because you want to get the best out of him.

“I think Human is one of the players that have responded positively. We needed to take him to another level, and I think he will be the player that is very, very important in the club for a long time and I think that is good because it will be an investment of the club.

“It’s always good for us to see the youngsters doing well for themselves, and also caring for the team. I think this is a season of youngsters doing well, and we also trying to push all the youngsters we have like Sithole and Msindisi.

“We are trying to give them an opportunity, but obviously at this time of the season, you also trying to get a balance of the team. We are grinding the results home and away, and it was never going to be easy.”

Meanwhile, the former Kaizer Chiefs coach added that having Bongani Zungu is a special thing for the club because he is a good player and plays a huge role in young players of Usuthu. Zungu joined the Durban-based side in December 2024.

“Look, there’s no doubt the quality of Bongani [Zungu], and bringing him on board we knew that it would be like a sort of killing four birds with one stone because we needed him on the field and off the field,” Zwane added.

“We want him to guide the youngsters, and I think he’s doing that very well for us. He’s got a rare quality and a lot of youngsters that we are grooming can learn a lot from him.

“I think these youngsters without the guidance of the senior players, trust me will never get it right.

“It’s good for South African football, it’s good for development and it’s good also for the national team because most of them are going to do well very soon and some of them we’ll see them playing overseas and it’s good for the country.”
