Solomons: Pressure Remains Despite Nedbank Cup Win

Kaizer Chiefs defender Dillan Solomons has warned that the pressure on Amakhosi will not dissipate despite their Nedbank Cup triumph over Orlando Pirates.

Amakhosi claimed a thrilling 2-1 victory over their arch-rivals at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, ending a 10-year trophy drought.

The win marked a significant milestone for the Phefeni Glamour Boys, who have struggled to replicate their success since 2015.

Under the guidance of Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi, Chiefs have managed to bring silverware to the club in his debut season, despite struggling in the league.

“We don’t think winning this trophy means the pressure has gone,” Solomons said.

“The fans will obviously want more of this, and we have to stay focused on that and try to win more trophies for the club and for the fans.”

Solomons’ comments underscore the team’s commitment to building on their success and continuing to deliver for their fans.

The former Moroka Swallows defender also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the club’s chairman, Kaizer Motaung, for his unwavering support throughout the season.

“It’s a big moment to our chairman,” Solomonsadded.

“The chairman has always shown trust in us as players, even the technical team as well. For us to win this game and to say thank you to the chairman, and hopefully this is a start of good things.”

The defender praised Motaung’s leadership, saying, “I would like to thank him for always showing support to us throughout the season. We managed to get a trophy for him, we just want to thank him for the support and believing in us.”

This sentiment highlights the strong relationship between the team and the chairman.

As Amakhosi look to the future, Solomons’ words serve as a reminder that the pressure to perform will remain. With two league games remaining, the team sits in ninth place with 30 points.

Nevertheless, the Nedbank Cup win provides a much-needed boost to the team’s morale and momentum.
