PSL Announces The Venue Change For Stellenbosch And Chiefs

The Premier Soccer League has announced a venue change for the upcoming match between Stellenbosch and Kaizer Chiefs.

The season’s first clash between the two teams was originally scheduled for Sunday at DHL Stadium but will now be held at Athlone Stadium at the same time (17:30).

The reason for the change has not been officially confirmed, but it’s likely due to the poor condition of the DHL Stadium pitch.

During Stellenbosch’s recent MTN8 quarter-final win against AmaZulu, the field was noticeably bumpy with significant patches of missing grass, which made for difficult playing conditions. This was attributed to a Currie Cup rugby match played by Western Province at the venue.

Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker will be hoping the change of venue brings a change of fortune. His team lost all three of their matches against Kaizer Chiefs last season, falling to them in both league games and in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final, a tournament which Chiefs ultimately went on to win.
