Miguel Downplays Significance Of Rivals’ Slow Start

Kaizer Chiefs captain Inacio Miguel has emphasized the importance of focusing on the team’s performance, rather than getting distracted by the slow start of rivals Stellenbosch, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Orlando Pirates.

While the top three teams from last season have struggled to find their footing in the first league games, especially Pirates, who lost again to Marumo Gallants, Miguel believes that Chiefs should concentrate on their game plan.

“No, I will not focus on the other teams, just on ourselves to see what we can do better, and I think we have nothing to do with other teams,” Miguel said.

“So, I don’t care about the other teams’ results, but I only care about our results as Kaizer Chiefs. I think that’s the most important thing for us to focus on ourselves.”

Sundowns played a 1-1 draw away from home against Chippa United, coached by former Sundowns’ DStv Diski Challenge team Sinethemba Badela.

Pirates, on the other hand, lost 1-0 against Sekhukhune United and Gallants on Tuesday, respectively, while Stellenbosch suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chiefs in their opening match.

Miguel’s focus on the team’s performance is driven by a desire to build momentum game by game.

“I think the fans of Kaizer Chiefs are more than anything, and they deserve good,” he said.

“When I walk around the street here, many fans tell me that they want another trophy.

“But I think the most important thing they need to understand is that we have to go game by game, and we can’t create expectations.

“With expectations, there will be disappointments, and the disappointments will be on the fans.”

The 29-year-old promised the fans that the team would work hard in every game and training session to achieve their goals.

“What I can promise to the fans is nothing but hard work in every game and training,” he added.

“We will be there and trying to do our best to bring the trophies that they want, and if we win game by game, we will hopefully achieve our goals.”

Amakhosi will host Polokwane City at FNB Stadium on Wednesday. Polokwane City played a draw in their first league game against Magesi.
