Shalulile Equals Nomvethe’s PSL Record As Sundowns Beat Magesi

Peter Shalulile equalled the long-standing PSL record of Siyabonga Nomvethe as Mamelodi Sundowns secured a comprehensive 2-0 victory over Magesi in their Betway Premiership match on Wednesday evening at Seshego Stadium.

Shalulile scored with a left-footed shot on the turn to make 129 goals in the PSL, which was his first this season, much to the delight of his team-mates.

This win marked Sundowns’ second victory of the league, following their win over AmaZulu last week.

The Brazilians started the game on a high note, creating several scoring opportunities in the first 15 minutes, but failed to capitalize on them.

Magesi took over in the mid-first half, creating more than seven chances, but Sundowns’ defense held strong, and the game remained goalless at halftime.

Coach Miguel Cardoso made a tactical substitution before the second half, introducing Thapelo Maseko and resting Gomolemo Kekana to bolster the attack.

The introduction of Maseko had an immediate impact, with Bathusi Aubaas and Jayden Adams coming close to scoring.

Cardoso further strengthened the attack with the introduction of Marcelo Allende, Thapelo Morena, and Tashreeq Matthews, and it paid off when Adams scored the opening goal in the 73rd minute.

The Brazilians continued to press for a second goal and eventually scored one in the 87th minute through Peter Shalulile, who scored a stunning goal from outside the box.

The game ended 2-0 in favor of Sundowns, who moved to third position with seven points.

Sundowns will next face Orlando Pirates in the second leg of the MTN8 Cup on Saturday at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

In their upcoming league match, Sundowns will take on Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday, while Magesi will face Golden Arrows at King Zwelithini Stadium on the same day.
