Ouaddou Praises Pirates’ Victory Over Orbit College
Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou believes his team is making progress, but still needs to work on consistency after their 1-0 victory over Orbit College at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday.
The Buccaneers didn’t have a great start to the season, losing their first two games against Sekhukhune United and Marumo Gallants.
However, they bounced back with a win against Stellenbosch at Orlando Stadium last week, and followed it up with a victory against Orbit.
“We need to keep the ball and create chances, but even though today we created chances, we still need to be more consistent in front of the goals,” Ouaddou said on SuperSport TV after the match.
Despite the team’s struggles with finishing, Ouaddou was pleased with the clean sheet, which he believes will give his players more confidence.
“The best thing I can take today is that we had a clean sheet, so it gives confidence to the guys, and we have to play like we did in the second half for the next games.”
Ouaddou also praised his team’s performance in the second half, which he believes was closer to the style of play he wants his team to adopt.
“I aim to play like we played in the second half against Mamelodi Sundowns,” he added.
The victory over Orbit College has seen Pirates move to seventh place in the Betway Premiership with six points after four games.
The Moroccan coach also had kind words for Orbit, acknowledging that they gave his team a tough game.
“Yes, I’m very happy for the victory and congratulations to the boys because it’s not easy to play like this after playing such a bog game against Mamelodi Sundowns,” he said.
“We need to go find some other resources, and it was not easy, especially in the first half, but we managed to make some changes.
“But I have to congratulate Orbit College as well, they gave us a tough game, and we know now that in the PSL, there’s no small team.”
Pirates will look to continue their winning form when they take on Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday.
