Stellenbosch Bolster Defense With Signing Of Former Pirates Star

Stellenbosch have bolstered their defence with the signing of former Orlando Pirates right-back Wayde Jooste.
Jooste has been without a club since leaving AmaZulu at the end of last season. During that period, he was included in Bafana Bafana’s makeshift squad for the CHAN tournament, which was held in East Africa in August.
The 34-year-old joined Usuthu at the start of the 2023/24 season after a spell without a club following his departure from Durban City, formerly known as Maritzburg United, who had been relegated. During his two-season stint at AmaZulu, Jooste made 45 appearances in all competitions, underlining his defensive reliability and experience. He also contributed one goal and two assists.
Jooste previously enjoyed success with Orlando Pirates, where he was part of the squad that won the MTN8 in the 2020/21 season, defeating Bloemfontein Celtic in the final.
The Eastern Cape-born versatile defender began his professional career at Bloemfontein Celtic and also had spells with Golden Arrows and Highlands Park. Across his career, he has featured in 201 matches, scoring eight goals and providing 10 assists.
Jooste joins a Stellenbosch side currently sitting 14th on the Betway Premiership table with 12 points from 14 matches, having managed just three league wins so far this season.
Stellenbosch’s first match of 2026 will be against Sekhukhune United on 20 January at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
