Stellenbosch Sign Sundowns Attacker

Legendary football agent Mike Makaab has confirmed that Kobamelo Kodisang is set to join Stellenbosch FC on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns until the end of the season.
Kodisang was loaned out by Sundowns to Portuguese side AVS Futebol SAD during the off-season after falling out of favour with head coach Miguel Cardoso.
The 26-year-old joined Sundowns at the start of last season from Portuguese outfit Moreirense on a contract that runs until 2029.
Since arriving at Sundowns, Kodisang has made 12 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and registering one assist. Despite his limited game time, he was part of the squad that won the league title in Cardoso’s first season in charge last term.
“Kodisang is going on loan to Stellies. I can confirm that, in principle, the deal is being done. All we are waiting for is the final paperwork and his medicals,” Makaab said on the Extra Time Show on Gagasi FM on Friday.
Kodisang, who made just five appearances for Moreirense, will be hoping to rediscover the form that once put him in contention for Bafana Bafana selection under coach Hugo Broos.
“If everything goes according to plan, we expect everything to be signed off early next week. I’m looking forward to seeing him back in the country and regaining the form that made him one of the most exciting prospects in our country. He also had a wonderful time in Portugal, where he played for one of the top-six teams that season, Moreirense, and featured in 31 of the 34 matches,” Makaab added.
Makaab also confirmed that several clubs had shown interest in Kodisang, including a Brazilian side.
“We also had a team in Brazil that was very interested. We felt, together with Mamelodi Sundowns, that the most important thing was for him to go to a club where his chances of playing and getting his career back on track are good,” he said.
By joining Stellenbosch, Kodisang will reunite with former coach Gavin Hunt, who signed him from Platinum Stars to Bidvest Wits ahead of the 2017/18 season. He made seven appearances under Hunt and scored his first PSL goal during that spell.
Hunt was recently appointed as Stellenbosch head coach, replacing Steve Barker, who has since joined Simba SC.
“Don’t forget, it was Gavin Hunt who gave him his debut at Wits before KK moved to Braga at the age of 18,” Makaab concluded.
“So, for me, it’s very interesting and exciting, but now it’s all up to KK to show the hunger and desire to get back to where he was.”
