Kaze Replies On Whether Chiefs Need A New Coach
Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has responded to questions about whether the club needs to make changes to its technical team.
Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef took charge of Chiefs after the club parted ways with Nasreddine Nabi in September, assuming joint responsibility until the end of the season.
Chiefs suffered an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby at a packed FNB Stadium on Saturday.
It was Chiefs’ heaviest league defeat to Pirates in the Derby since 2001, when they lost by the same scoreline.
They went into that match on a two-game losing streak, having suffered defeats to AL Masry in the CAF Confederation Cup and Stellenbosch, respectively. Chiefs have won only one of their last five matches.
“It’s not up to me, but I believe we are here because we are trusted by management,” Kaze said.
“It’s true that we’ve had a series of poor results, but I believe there are things that have worked over the past few months.
“We need to remind ourselves and our players what worked in the first half of the season and probably get back to the basics of football — how well we defended. If we don’t score, we must not concede. Things like that are the only way to move forward.”
Following the defeat, Chiefs are now 11 points behind Pirates, who returned to the top of the table with the win.
Chiefs remain fourth in the Betway Premiership standings with 30 points after 17 matches.
