Sundowns To Release Legendary Developer For Blockbuster AmaTuks Move

David Notoane has emerged as the heavy favourite to take over as the new head coach of the University of Pretoria.

Sportswire understands that Mamelodi Sundowns are entirely willing to release Notoane from his current development role to allow him to join the Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) outfit.

Notoane, a highly respected figure in youth transition, previously spearheaded the Sundowns DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) side.

Why Did Kwanele Kopo Leave AmaTuks?

The head coaching seat at AmaTuks is currently vacant following the departure of Kwanele Kopo.

Kopo, who joined the University of Pretoria at the start of last season, parted ways with the club after a disappointing 11th-place finish in the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings. The underwhelming campaign ultimately forced management’s hand to axing the former Chippa United tactician.

If Notoane finalises his move to Tuks, it will mark his first senior club managerial appointment in over a decade.

What is David Notoane’s Senior Coaching Record?

The 57-year-old tactician famously led the South African Under-23 national team to the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021. However, his last senior club spell in the second tier dates back to a brief two-month stint with Cape Town All Stars during the 2014/15 season.

Prior to that, he spent the 2013/14 campaign at the helm of Cape Town outfit Santos.

Strong Capital Ties to Ease Transition

Negotiations between the two Pretoria-based institutions are expected to progress smoothly. The cross-town rivals share a rich history of player movement, with several Sundowns players spending time on loan at the Tuks stadium campus in recent seasons.
