Former Sundowns Striker Joins Young Africans
Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile has joined Tanzanian side Young Africans, the club announced.
Shalulile parted ways with Sundowns at the end of last season after seeing limited game time with the South African giants.
At his new club, Shalulile reunites with his former Sundowns coach, Manqoba Mngqithi. Under Mngqithi, the Namibian international was in prolific form, scoring 27 goals and providing eight assists in 58 matches across all competitions.
The 32-year-old’s playing time took a major hit last season following the January arrival of Colombian forward Brayan León. Shalulile subsequently endured the leanest spell of his Premier Soccer League (PSL) career, registering just six goals and a single assist in 23 appearances.
Combining his breakthrough years at Highlands Park with his glittering spell in Pretoria, Shalulile leaves Chloorkop as the PSL’s all-time top goalscorer, boasting an astonishing 136 goals and 35 assists in 313 professional appearances.
During a trophy-laden six-year stint at Sundowns, Shalulile captured five Premiership titles, the CAF Champions League, the Nedbank Cup, the MTN8, and the inaugural African Football League (AFL).
On an individual level, his dominance was unmatched—he clinched the PSL Footballer of the Season award twice and claimed four PSL Golden Boots.
Shalulile became the first player representing a South African club to reach 20 goals in the CAF Champions League.
