“A Football Powerhouse!” – KZN MEC Reacts On Milford’s Promotion

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Mntomuhle Khawula, has officially congratulated Milford FC on securing historic promotion to the Betway Premiership following their decisive 1-1 draw against Magesi FC at Seshego Stadium on Saturday.

The Stallions clinched top-flight promotion after a hard-fought battle in Polokwane, marking a monumental milestone for the club’s players, technical staff, management, and the broader KwaZulu-Natal football fraternity.

MEC Khawula emphasized that Milford’s triumph stands as a proud moment for the region, cementing the province’s reputation as a dominant football hub.

“On behalf of the people of KwaZulu-Natal, I wish to congratulate Milford FC on this remarkable achievement,” MEC Khawula said. “The team demonstrated immense resilience, determination, and professionalism throughout the promotional playoff campaign. Their promotion is a victory not only for the club, but for the entire province that rallied behind them.”

The historic promotion increases KwaZulu-Natal’s top-flight representation to five clubs, giving the province the highest number of teams in South Africa’s premier division for the upcoming season.

MEC Khawula praised football supporters across the province, particularly those from the King Cetshwayo District and surrounding areas, who answered the call to act as Milford’s crucial “12th player” during the high-stakes campaign.

“The support from our football fans has been incredible,” Khawula added. “Supporters packed the stands, created an inspiring atmosphere of unity, and showed the pure passion that defines KwaZulu-Natal football. We thank every fan who travelled, cheered, and stood firmly behind Milford FC on this journey.”

The MEC concluded by highlighting how Milford FC’s success underscores the urgent need for continued investment in grassroots football development to create sustainable pathways for local talent.

“Today we celebrate Milford FC, but we also celebrate the football-loving communities of KwaZulu-Natal,” Khawula noted. “This achievement belongs to everyone who believes in the power of sport to unite people, build hope, and unlock new opportunities.”
