Amajimbos Eye World Cup Knockout Stages
Amajimbos coach Vela Khumalo has stated that their goal is to reach the knockout stage of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar from November 2-27 this year.
South Africa has been drawn in Group A, alongside Qatar, Italy, and Bolivia. This marks Amajimbos’ second appearance in this tournament, having previously qualified in 2015 where they finished at the bottom of their group.
Amajombos qualified for the U/17 FIFA World Cup after they reached the quarter final of the U/17 Africa Cup of Nations, where they were knocked out by Morocco.
Khumalo noted that the team is ready for the highly anticipated tournament and intends to advance to the knockout rounds.
“I think this is what we are all waiting for, what we anticipated,” said Khumalo.
“Very interesting for the country, and very intriguing at the same time. However, I think we’re all ready for this.”
“This is what we all wanted. Importantly, for this is to maybe not get carried away and work towards going out of the group stage and going for the knockouts.”
Khumalo further explained that since all teams start on equal points, preparation will be the determining factor.
“We don’t know much about the teams, but because we are all starting from zero, we are all equal, and it is all about preparation and how we want to do it,” Khumalo explained.
