AmaZulu Edge Arrows In KZN Premier’s Cup Playoff

AmaZulu have once again eliminated Golden Arrows from the KZN Premier’s Cup, securing a thrilling 3-2 victory at Umhlathuze Stadium on Saturday.

This win mirrors their success against Arrows in last season’s playoff.

Having won the tournament in 2023, AmaZulu now advances to face the winner of the later playoff match between Durban City and Milford FC in the semi-final. That semi-final match will take place on Sunday at the same venue.

The first half saw a flurry of goals, with AmaZulu drawing first blood in the 13th minute. Riaan Hanamub capitalized on a corner kick that Arrows failed to clear, putting Usuthu ahead. However, Arrows quickly responded when Junior Dion, who departed AmaZulu last season, found the net to level the score at 1-1.

Usuthu regained the lead through Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya, who scored on his second attempt after an initial shot was blocked. But Arrows once again equalized with a magnificent goal from Siyanda Mthanti, making it 2-2. Ngwenya, however, re-established AmaZulu’s lead to make it 3-2 before halftime.

In the second half, Arrows pushed for an equalizer, even hitting the post. However, Usuthu goalkeeper Richards Ofori made a series of incredible saves during a goalmouth scramble, denying Arrows their comeback. That proved to be the only significant chance of the half, as AmaZulu held on to reach the semi-finals.
