Chiefs Legends Triumph In Toyota Cup Curtain Raiser

The Kaizer Chiefs legends emerged victorious in the Toyota Cup Curtain Raiser, defeating the Zulu Kingdom Legends 3-2 on penalties at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

The match ended 1-1 after regular time, with both teams creating numerous scoring opportunities throughout the game.

The Zulu Kingdom Legends took the lead in the 30th minute through Bryce Moon’s well-taken goal, which left the Chiefs’ goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo with no chance.

Despite Amakhosi’s best efforts, they were unable to find an equalizer in the first half.

In the second half, coach Thabo Mooki introduced Jabu Mahlangu, Thuso Phala, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, and Josta Dladla to strengthen the team’s attack.

The introduction of these players had an immediate impact, with Amakhosi creating several scoring opportunities.

However, they were unable to capitalize on these chances, including a penalty kick that was missed by David Radebe.

Amakhosi continued to push for an equalizer and finally got their chance in the 59th minute when Moon fouled Phala, and captain Cyril Nzama scored the penalty kick with precision.

The game ended 1-1, and the winner was decided by a penalty shootout. The Chiefs legends emerged victorious, winning 3-2 on penalties.

This win marks the second edition of the Toyota Cup, with Amakhosi having won the inaugural edition last year by beating Bloemfontein Celtic Legends 2-1 at Toyota Stadium.

The main event of the day will see Nasreddine Nabi’s Kaizer Chiefs face off against the Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko at Moses Mabhida Stadium later in the day.

Last year, Nabi’s team suffered a 4-0 defeat to the Tanzanian champions Young Africans.
