AmaZulu File Mobara’s Red Card Complaint

AmaZulu coach Pablo Franco Martin has confirmed that they have filed a complaint report to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) requesting Abbubaker Mobara’s red card to be rescinded.

Mobara was controversially sent off during their 1-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates last weekend. Replays showed Mobara appeared to win the ball cleanly, but referee Cedric Muvhali dismissed him without the benefit of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology.

This angered coach Martin, who called for Muvhali’s suspension by the South African Football Association (SAFA) for the remainder of the season.

“Mobara right now is suspended,” said Cijimpi on Thursday.

“We sent a report to PSL because when you receive a red card for… First of all, it’s probably not even a red card to the situation, especially because it’s not even a foul.

“And then when someone makes a mistake, and you need to be punished for the mistake of someone else, I think it’s ridiculous.

“We are not even talking about something that is crazy. The report is there with PSL, we are waiting for their reply in two days because we are expecting Mobara to be available for this game and the upcoming games. Because not being able to continue to play for three games for something he didn’t do.”

AmaZulu, despite significant investment, haven’t lived up to expectations. They currently sit 13th in the DStv Premiership table with 28 points after 24 matches. Their away record is particularly concerning, with only one win outside KwaZulu-Natal all season.

Their next challenge is a home fixture against in-form Chippa United at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday (15:00).
