Arendse Reveals SSU Transfer Plans Ahead Of Deadline

SuperSport United assistant coach Andre Arendse has revealed the club’s plans in the ongoing transfer window that is set to slam shut on Friday.

Matsatsantsa bolstered their squad with the additions of Vincent Pule, Keanin Ayer, Nyiko Mobbie, Pogiso Sanoka, Thakasani Mbanjwa, Brooklyn Poggenpoel, and Ricardo Goss (loan from Mamelodi Sundowns) amongst others for the new season.

However, the Tshwane-based outfit suffered two major injury blows with Bradley Grobler set to be sidelined for four to five months after sustaining a groin injury, while Grant Margeman will also endure a lengthy spell on the sidelines after tearing his ACL.

Arendse confirmed that the long-term injuries to their key players have prompted their desire to delve into the market for replacements. “As far as the transfer window goes, we are working hard to boost the team,” he said.

“We’ve got key players missing, we’ve got Grant Margeman out for months, we’ve got Bradley Grobler out for months.

“These are two key players that we are missing, and big for the team so we’ve got to replace them. And we are hoping to secure one or two [signings] before the window closes.”

The former Bafana international went on to explain that they are trying to do away with their reliance on Grobler for goals, with the veteran goal poacher finishing four of the last five campaigns as the club’s top scorer.

“The one thing we have to change as a team this season is to back Bradley up with goals,” Arendse said.

“Bradley’s track record in the past will show that Bradley scored maybe 14 goals in a season, but our next best goal scorer may have three or four goals.

“We need to bridge that gap, we are busy doing that. We are working hard in the market to try to bring in quality in the striking department and that’s our number one target at the moment.

“And we will be successful within a short time in terms of fixing that but the thing we work on a lot in training is the finishing,” he added.

Grobler, who has scored 112 goals in the Premier Soccer League era, is currently 11 goals shy of matching Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend Siyabonga Nomvethe’s record of 123 goals, at the summit of the renowned 100-goal mark list.
