Arrows Aim For The Top 8 Spot

Golden Arrows co-coach Musa Bilankulu has set his sights on finishing in the top eight of the Betway Premiership since they’ve lost an opportunity to win league cups.

The 2009 MTN 8 champions, who were knocked out in the first round of the Carling Knockout and Nedbank Cup, are currently sitting eighth with 19 points after 14 games in the league.

This past weekend they were hammered 4-0 by log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday, but that has disturbed Bilankulu’s thinking of finishing in the top eight.

“Currently we felt off in the cups, but I believe that top 8 is the mandate now,” Bilankulu said.

“I believe that we’ll achieve that with the performance we’ve shown, and we just need to be consistent in the games and then take chances in the game.

“I believe that we can make the top 8, we are still in the first round of the season and we’ll start fighting for more points in the second round.”

Meanwhile, the former Arrows captain added that he and his co-coach Kagisho Dikgacoi are learning a lot as coaches in every game they play, especially that against Sundowns.

“These games I wouldn’t say it’s beating because if you check the goals, there’s no goals that they penetrated us in our defensive structure,” Bilankulu said.

“We created those moments for them to find openings. The first goal we didn’t press then they cheap the ball, and it’s a penalty.

“Second goal we let the runner, third goal I believe we were supposed to clear the ball. So, in all the goals there are no goals where you can say now they dominated us because, at the moment where they created those attacking coming to the final third, they didn’t pose a danger.

“So, in answering your question that we are still young, yes every game it’s a teacher and I believe that it gives us more lessons.

“These kinds of games even give players give them a lesson that when you play against these quality teams. You need to pay attention so that you can grow as a player. I think even us as coaches we’ll grow when we face these types of situations.”
