CAF Confirms The Date For Club Competition Group Stage draws

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the draws for the 2024/25 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will take place on 7 October.

South Africa will have two representatives in the Champions League after Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns secured their places in the group stages. Pirates defeated Jwaneng Galaxy 3-0 on aggregate, while Sundowns cruised past Mbabane Swallows with an 8-0 victory.

Sekhukhune United were eliminated from the Confederation Cup second preliminary round on away goals by Clube Desportivo da Lunda-Sul after a 2-2 aggregate draw.

Stellenbosch FC, however, is still locked in the second-leg tie second preliminary round with AS Vita Club after winning the first leg 2-0 in Cape Town.

CAF announced the draw dates in a statement: “The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) has announced the date and time for the 2024/25 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup,” said CAF in a statement.

“Both draws will be conducted on Monday, 07 October 2024.

“The TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup Group Stage Draw will start at 13h00 Cairo time (11h00 GMT) followed by the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League at 14h00 local time (11h00 GMT).

“The full list of the qualified teams will be confirmed on Sunday night, 22 September 2024.”

Either Pirates or Stellenbosch FC will have already won their first trophy of the season by the time the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup draws take place. The two PSL sides teams will face each other in the MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on 5 October.
