Cardoso Reveals Why He Retained Komphela and Mweene

Mamelodi Sundowns newly appointed coach Miguel Cardoso has revealed why he retained coach Steve Komphela and Kennedy Mweene in the technical team of the Tshwane giant.
The Brazilians recently parted ways with Manqoba Mngqithi alongside two of his technical team members, Romain Folz and Wendell Robinson. Senior coach, Komphela and Mweene were retained to the new technical team of Sundowns.
The Portuguese tactician, Cardoso revealed that Komphela and Mweene will help him to absorb things quickly and that is why he retained them in the club. “I feel pleased with the technical staff I have, it was a common decision to keep Steve Komphela and Kennedy Mweene with us, I need to absorb as quickly as possible, not only their [knowledge] but they can help us with the quality of their work,” Cardoso said.
“Their experience they have, but the fact they are locals, and they can give us the insights we need, it’s the couple of factors that made them be among or with me today, it was a decision we made, not imposed, otherwise I could not speak and say this in front of you.
“I decided to absorb them because I felt it can be key but not only them, I will also work with all the physical performance department, I will work together with Mathias [Zangenberg] and Sandiso who were already here.”
Komphela will continue being the senior coach, while Mweene, the most capped player in the Zambian national team, having represented Chipolopolo more than 120 times, will be the new goalkeeper coach for the Brazilians.
The former Free State Stars goalkeeper was previously the assistant goalkeeper coach, while the recently sacked Robinson was the one who was the goalkeeper coach in the Brazilians.
