Cardoso Stays Focused Amid FIFA Club World Cup Competition Drawing Closer

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso declined to comment on whether he was keeping one eye on German giants Borussia Dortmund, following their pairing in the FIFA Club World Cup group stage.
Borussia Dortmund, who were UEFA Champions League finalists last season, losing to Real Madrid, were drawn with Sundowns in Club World Cup Group F, alongside Ulsan HD from South Korea and Brazilian side Fluminense.
However, Dortmund has struggled in the Bundesliga this season. They currently sit 10th with 35 points from 24 matches, 26 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich. Their current form suggests they may miss out on European competition next season, unless they win the Champions League, which appears unlikely.
Dortmund, who last won the Bundesliga under former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in 2012, recently changed coaches. They replaced former midfielder Nuri Sahin with former Bayern coach Nico Kovac.
“Right now, I’m focused on Sekhukhune United, just as I was recently focused on Golden Arrows,” said Cardoso. “Believe me, my only thoughts are on the next match.”
Cardoso was referring to their Nedbank Cup quarter-final against Sekhukhune United, which will be played at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday at 20:00.
Sundowns, making their second appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup, will begin the tournament in the United States against Ulsan HD at Inter&Co Stadium in Florida on 18 June.
Their highly anticipated match against Dortmund will take place at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio, three days later at 18:00.
They will conclude their group stage matches against Fluminense at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on 25 June at 21:00.
