Cele Outlines Chiefs’ Ambitions For The Season

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Thabo Cele has outlined the team’s objectives for the season, emphasizing the importance of delivering good results and meeting the expectations of the fans.

After a strong start to the campaign, which saw the team win their first two matches against Stellenbosch and Polokwane City, Amakhosi are currently sitting in second position in the Betway Premiership with six points.

One notable aspect of Chiefs’ start to the season has been their defensive solidity, with the team not conceding a single goal in their first two matches.

This is a significant improvement from last season, when they conceded goals in almost every game, including their opening two matches against Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu.

“We’re trying to improve in how we play, we create opportunities, and in the last games we didn’t concede, and we’re trying to improve that,” Cele said.

“If you look at the game against Stellenbosch, I think they created many opportunities, but we’re trying to minimize that. I think the opportunity is on us to create more opportunities, and that’s how it’s about.”

The former Fakel Voronezh midfielder emphasized that Amakhosi are working hard to build on the positives from last season and improve on the areas that let them down.

“Tactically, we’re trying to keep the positive things from last season, and we’ve been working on that,” he added.

“We want to control games and also dominate all games so that the games won’t become difficult for us.

“If you look at our problem last season, it’s that we used to play, play, then lose the ball so easily.

“So, we’re trying to be in control, especially in the opponent’s half, so that we can create more opportunities. It’s those things that we’re trying to improve on tactically.”

With their next match against struggling Richards Bay on Tuesday at FNB Stadium, Chiefs will be looking to continue their winning streak.

The Natal Rich Boys have had a tough start to the season, losing both their opening league games against Gallants and Golden Arrows.
